\"IMG_5638\"<\/a>Last month I went to two drawing exhibitions in Paris, both in one day. What a delight. Firstly a trip to Drawing Now<\/strong> held in the newly\u00a0restored Carreau\u00a0du Temple in the Haut Marais, then in the afternoon to Salon du Dessin<\/strong>\u00a0not far away at the old stock exchange, the\u00a0Palais de la Bourse.\u00a0A Temple and a Palace, both full of\u00a0drawings, but there was a major\u00a0difference between the two.<\/p>\n

\"IMG_5608\"One show had countless\u00a0renditions\u00a0of the human form, and one had very few. Although, I was pleased to see that Drawing Now (the more contemporary exhibition that did not feature\u00a0many corporal\u00a0works) had a figurative work\u00a0right when you walked in. It was this large pencil drawing by Ernest Pignon-Ernest<\/a>, who reproduces his classically inspired works on posters and then pastes them onto buildings throughout Europe and the world.\u00a0Drawing Now was\u00a0the first European Art Fair that focusses on\u00a0contemporary drawing, and about\u00a080 international galleries show their artists there.<\/p>\n

\"IMG_5583\"The exhibition\u00a0also had this rather strange sign outside with the prices and rules of entry, that stated that no artwork was allowed inside. Very odd. Drawing Now is held every year in late March\/early April in Paris, check their website for this years dates. However, although there were some interesting pieces on show, I did not stay very long.<\/p>\n

I could have stayed at the Salon du Dessin for days.\u00a0Drawing collectors, curators and\u00a0experts, artists and \u00a0amateurs collectors,\u00a0there were almost\u00a040\u00a0galleries to entice us there. These galleries\u00a0specialised in Old Masters, Modern and Contemporary drawings and they were showing more than\u00a01000 drawings between them, most of them were figurative in one form or other. It was, indeed, a wonderful exhibition.\u00a0As an artist who is interested mainly in the human form, this was inspirational. See below some of the pieces\u00a0I would have bought. The gallery owners were very courteous and did not mind if you got up really close or took photos. even though they must have sensed\u00a0that I could not afford the work on offer.<\/p>\n
